Robert W. Friedrichs (1923-2012)

Professor of Sociology, Emeritus

Bob Friedrichs was a graduate of Oberlin College and received his doctorate in sociology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. After teaching at Drew University for 12 years, he joined the faculty at Williams as the first sociologist ever hired by the college. He chaired Anthropology and Sociology for many years and retired in 1993.

Friedrichs was best known for his book A Sociology of Sociology (New York: The Free Press, 1970), which earned him the American Sociological Association's Sorokin Award in 1971.
