The High-energy Transient Experiment (HETE), to be launched in June 1996, will search for lower-energy counterparts of gamma-ray bursts. These x-ray and ultraviolet positions should be much more localized than the positions of gamma-ray bursts measured with the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory.
The Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite (SWAS), to be launched in April 1996, is a small satellite meant to study molecular lines in a region of the spectrum blocked by the atmosphere. Molecules to be studied include water, oxygen, carbon, and CO.
