Data obtained from the Center for Disease Control

How can you tell if you are obese? Obesity is based off of something called the body mass index (BMI).

To calculate your BMI, take your weight in kg and divide by your height in meters squared. Not a math wiz? Here's a site that will calculate it for you.

• If BMI > 30, you are considered to be obese
• If BMI is greater than 25 and less than 30, you are considered "overweight"
• If BMI is greater than 19 and less than 25, you are considered "normal"
• If BMI < 19, you are considered "underweight"

As of the beginning of 2002:
34% of US adult population has a BMI between 25 and 29.9
27% of US adult population has a BMI > 30
