backgroundmeasuring blood pressuredatacontact

Check it out! Rats, mice, and humans just about the same blood pressure (tells you something about what is required to push blood through an organ).

But vastly different heart rates!!!! The general rule - the smaller the organism, the higher the heart rate. Some shrews have had heart rates measured at over 1000 beats / minute.

Data shown is typcial from normals animals at night, their active period
.

Rat during the night
Average systolic pressure =
121 mmHg
Average diastolic pressure =
84 mmHg
Average mean pressure =
103 mmHg
Heart rate = 380 beats per minute

Mouse during the night
Average systolic pressure =
125 mmHg
Average diastolic pressure =
90 mmHg
Average mean pressure =
111 mmHg
Heart rate = 580 beats per minute
