History of Hardy House

Hardy House itself was built in 1946, and the College bought it in April 1948 from Nona M. Hardy. Nona and her husband James C. Hardy had bought the house property in 1909. James must have enjoyed living so close to the College during his term as a math professor from 1898 to 1942. He did not spend all those years in Hardy House, however. James married twice and moved from Hardy House to a Faculty House in Stetson Court with his second wife, Inez Waegele Hardy. Hardy House initially served as faculty accommodations with two apartments available as faculty accommodations. The house was renovated in 1982 and it became the Women's Resource Center. At various times, it also served as the home of groups like the Gul (the yearbook), the Record and the Gargoyle Society. Currently, Hardy is the base for the BGLTU, the WRC, the Photo Club, WIC, and OSAP.
