The Senior Seminar will be devoted, each year, to a detailed study of issues of dramatic theory, stage history, and styles and modes of theatre production, raised by a major work of dramatic literature chosen by the department. Students will be required to do extensive research on topics that serve to illuminate the social, political and artistic context in which the work was conceived, and to relate their theoretical conclusions to the pragmatic and collaborative process of stage production. A fully-mounted production of this work will be presented in the semester following the seminar, and students enrolled in the seminar will either be required to perform a major role in the production, or to function as its Scenic, Lighting or Costume Designer.
