ANTH 207(S) North-American Indians (W)*

An introduction to the subsistence strategies, social life, and religious vision of native North Americans. Particular attention will be paid to the sharp differences among Native-American world views and to diverse strategies for cultural survival in contemporary America. Readings will include autobiographical, ethnographic, and historical works, as well as examples of contemporary Native-American literature. Format: seminar. Requirements: one 5-page essay and one 15- to 20-page research paper. No prerequisites. Enrollment limit: 19. Preference given to Anthropology and Sociology majors. Open to first-year students.
