PeopleSoft Instructions for Preregistration

 

Violet BovineLog in to PeopleSoft:

  • If you have logged in to PeopleSoft before, but now have login problems, check the login problems page.
  • If you can’t connect to the login page, check our browser tips.
  • If all efforts to log in fail, go to the Registrar’s Office for help or e-mail selfreg@williams.edu with specifics about where in the login process you are having problems.

 


Registration Times (Enrollment Appointments)

  • PeopleSoft will be open for preregistration from 9:00am, Monday, October 27, through 8:00am, Tuesday, November 4.  Please do not wait until the wee hours of November 4 to log in; if you have problems at that point, no help will be available.  Up through Monday evening, November 3, help will be available through e-mail to selfreg@williams.edu or by stopping in to the Registrar’s Office during office hours, Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.
  • Registration will re-open in mid-January, so that you can adjust your schedule if needed.  See the Registration Timeline for information on the process between preregistration and February drop/add.  You can check registration times by navigating: Self Service > Student Center and clicking details under the Enrollment Dates section.

Checking for holds – any advising or registration holds will prevent you from adding courses. 

  • To check for holds, navigate Self Service > Student Center.  Any advising or registration holds will be indicated under the Holds section.  Click  for specific information on any holds listed.
  • All First-year and Sophomore students have an advising hold.  See information on advising requirements on the Preregistration Instructions.  You are expected to meet with an advisor by Monday, November 3, and your advisor is expected to remove the advising hold after you complete the advising process.  It’s worthwhile to check soon after your advising session to make sure the hold was removed, even if you are not yet ready to enter your preregistration.
  • You may also have registration holds.  If so, follow up with the office owning the hold as soon as possible.

Adding and changing classes. 

You may add courses, drop courses or swap courses (drop and add in one pass).  Navigate to Self-Service>Student Center, and click Enroll.  Or you can navigate through the Enrollment submenu links.  Once in the enrollment pages, you can add, drop, swap, search for classes, or check your class schedule without needing to navigate back to the Student Center or Enrollment menu.

Adding Classes

  • Navigate to the Add Classes page.
  • Depending on what path you took to the Add Classes page, you may first see a Term Select array or you may be on the Add Classes page.  On the Add Classes page, check the term to make sure it is Spring 2015.  If not, click change term to go to the Term Select array.  Click Spring 2015 and click Continue.
  • Search for a class to add or Enter the Class Nbr. Class Numbers are listed on the website directory next to each course.
  • If adding a lab or conference course, you will either see a message that you are automatically enrolled in the lecture or you may be asked to select a related section. Select a section if needed and click Next.
  • On the Enrollment Preferences page, click Next.
  • Once the class(es) you want to add are in your Pending Transactions list, click  Proceed to Step 2 of 3.  (If classes are in the Pending Transactions list that you don’t want to submit, click the trash can to delete them before proceeding.)
  • Confirm your adds and click Finish Enrolling.
  • Check for Success (green check mark) or Errors(red X mark).  If you don’t understand the error message, contact the Registrar’s Office.
  • Check your Class Schedule to confirm your enrollment.

Dropping Classes

  • Navigate to the Drop Classes page.
  • Depending on what path you took to the Drop Classes page, you may first see a Term Select array or you may be on the Drop Classes page.  On the Drop Classes page, check the term to make sure it is Spring 2015.  If not, click change term to go to the Term Select array.  Click Spring 2015 and click Continue.
  • Click the Select Box to the left of the course you wish to drop and click Drop Selected Classes.
  • Confirm your drops, then click Finish Dropping.
  • Check for Success (green check mark) or Errors(red X mark).
  • Check your Class Schedule to confirm your current schedule.

Swapping Classes.

  • Navigate to the Swap Classes page.
  • Depending on what path you took to the Swap Classes page, you may first see a Term Select array or you may be on the Swap Classes page.  On the Swap Classes page, check the term to make sure it is Spring 2015.  If not, click change term to go to the Term Select array.  Click Spring 2015 and click Continue.
  • Select the swap from class from the dropdown in the Swap This Classsection.
  • Search for a new class or enter a class number under the With This Class section.
  • For a lab or conference course, select related components, then proceed to the Enrollment Preference pages as in adding a class.
  • On the Enrollment Preferences page, click Next.
  • Confirm the swap and click Finish Swapping.
  • Check for Success (green check mark) or Errors(red X mark).  If there are errors, neither the drop nor the add have been processed.  You may want to drop the course you intended separately, or if the swap did not work your choice may be to stay where you are. If you don’t understand the error message, contact the Registrar’s Office. 
  • Check your Class Schedule to confirm your enrollment.
  • Special Swap Circumstances.
    • When swapping a lab or conference section for a single lecture course, the swap is for the lab/conf section from and to. You will remain enrolled in the lecture section.
    • When swapping sections in a multi-lecture, multi-conference or multi-lab course, such as ARTH102.
    • To swap conf/lab sections, under swap ‘with’, select another conf/lab section, then select the lecture section on the related components page.
    • To swap lecture sections, under swap ‘with’, select another lecture section, then select the conf/lab section on the related components page.
    • To swap both lecture and conf/lab sections, under swap ‘with’, select either the lecture or conf/lab section, then select the other component section on the related component page.

Viewing the Schedule of Classes – If you need to browse for courses, navigate Self-Service>Student Center and clickSearch For Classes, or navigate to Class Search/Browse Catalog > Class Search, or select the Search tab from within the Enrollment tabs. Select Spring 2015 for the term. Detailed information on class searches is available on the Registrar’s website, PeopleSoft/Student link.  To check for enforced prerequisite information, click the link section hyperlinkto drill down to class details.  If the course has prerequisites enforced, this will be listed under an Enrollment Information section.  The printed or website catalog description should be reviewed for full prerequisite information and departments or instructors should be consulted if there is any question about meeting a course prerequisite.
