Ephs Blank Cougars
October 18, 1998

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA --- The Williams College men's soccer team improved their record to 9-1-0 today as they shutout the Clark University Cougars by a score of 8-0. This brings Clark's record to 5-5-0. The Ephmen have now not been scored on in 489m 34s, which is the equivalent of 5.44 games. "I was a little worried that we would be drained after playing Amherst yesterday," commented Williams' head coach Mike Russo, "but I'm pleased that we came out as strong as we did. Clark beat us 1-0 last year, and we weren't sure what to expect from them this year." The Ephs next match is at Tufts next Saturday at 2:30 pm.

Williams came out very strong in the first half, and went into the second half with a 6-0 lead. The first goal of the game came at the 6:04 mark, as senior Steve Danbusky (New Hyde Park, NY) drilled in a direct kick from 25 yards out. The Ephs scored again 24:08 into the game, as senior Angelo Patentas (Piraeus, Greece) dished the ball across the net to junior Jason Stojkovic, who tipped it into the near post. Williams went on to tally four more goals before the end of the half. Scoring for the Ephs were senior Christian Dankers (Monroe, WA), Angelo Patentas (2), and junior Jon Trementozzi (Boulder, CO).

The Ephs came out with the intent to possess the ball in the second half, and that's just what they did. Scoring for Williams were first year Ted Giannacopoulos (Needham, MA) and Jon Trementozzi. Williams outshot their opponents 31-10. Playing in goal for Williams in the first half was sophomore Ryan Spicer (Barrington, RI), who had 3 saves. Spicer was relieved by junior Neal Appleman (New York, NY) for the second half. Playing in goal for Clark was senior David Pfeil with 9 saves.
