'THE BIGGEST LITTLE GAME in AMERICA' -- Williams vs. Amherst

The Eph bench erupts knowing that the first perfect season in Williams football history is assured with a 17-14 win over Amherst on Weston Field in 1989.

Williams leads the most played rivalry in NCAA Division III 66-47-5. Dick Farley finished 14-2-1 in his career vs. Amherst. The last 17 encounters have aired on live satellite TV, ESPN II or the New England Sports Network (NESN) on the second Saturday of every November. Approximately 50 combined Williams - Amherst alumni gatherings watch the contests in some of the nation's largest cities and tapes have been sent to gatherings in London, Paris, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

A potent air attack and an unrelenting defense, shown here as defensive lineman Will Gilyard stifles the Jeffs' tailback Fletcher Ladd (above, center), led to Tyler Shea's game-winning TD in Overtime of last season's Williams-Amherst game (above, right). The Ephs prevailed once again, by a score of 23-20, giving their fans reason to celebrate (below).
