Resources for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Communities

The Williams OCC and its staff celebrate and support all Williams students and alumni. We provide resources and services to meet the career development and job search needs of Williams' diverse student and alumni populations.

To take full advantage of our services please make an appointment to meet with John Noble, OCC Director and liaison to the Williams College Multicultural Center.

• Lists of queer-supportive employers from the Advocate and Human Rights Campaign.
• HRC Worknet — the nation's most comprehensive and regularly updated database of corporate policies and workplace laws. Search by company for GLBTQ policies, health benefits, etc.
• Sexual Orientation and Career Decision Making: Researching Employers — Lawrence University Career Center's step-by-step guidelines for researching employers.

• OUT For Work LGBTQ Career Center Library - "We have researched and sifted through the myriad of available information and have put together the 88 very best articles, websites, and books covering the span of LGBTQ specific issues when entering and settling into the workplace. Some of the topics covered by OUT for Work’s Library materials include the why’s and how’s of being out in the job search and on the job as well as the details of domestic partner benefits and corporate non-discrimination policies." You will need to log in to the Route 2 System for the username and password for this site, which is located on your Route 2 home page.
• "NOGLSTP is a national organization of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people (and their advocates) employed or interested in scientific or high technology fields. NOGLSTP's goals include educating the scientific and general communities about LGBT issues in science and the technical workplace; educating the queer community about relevant topics in science; dialogue with professional societies and associations; improving our members employment and professional environment; opposing queer phobia and stereotypes by providing role models of successful LGBT scientific and technical professionals; and fostering networking and mentoring among our members."
• The Felicia Park-Rogers Summer Internship Program at COLAGE provides 10-week internships that promote development of young leadership, allow participants a hands-on look at the non-profit field, teach interns about LGBT family’s issues, and promise to be a lot of fun!
• Out For Undergraduate Business Conference "The Cornell Out for Undergraduate Business Conference is a high-impact recruiting pipeline for highly qualified lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender undergraduate students into investment banking and management consulting. The program will include speakers and panels designed to expose students to practical business frameworks and analyses, polish resume/interview skills and network with LGBT professionals and students from other schools. Presenters will include consultants and bankers from sponsoring companies, Cornell Business faculty and prominent LGBT business leaders. In addition to the pre-professional activities on the schedule, there will be plenty of time to relax and meet new friends during the conference's social activities. The Conference is held during October in New York City. Scholarships to cover travel expenses and lodging are available for exceptional applicants."
• Careers.org Diversity Employment has many links to sites offering a wide variety of information including Fortune 500 companies offering same-sex partner health care benefits and/or sexual orientation nondiscrimination policies.
• Gay & Lesbian Professionals Careers includes job search, resume guidelines, salary research, and employer profiles.
• Sexual Orientation and Career Decision Making from Lawrence University includes Resumes and Interviews; Researching Employers; Coming Out in the Workplace; What to Do if You are the Target of Discrimination; and Helpful Resources and Links.
• Out Professionals The nation's largest gay & lesbian networking organization. Annual dues but many benefits include email notices of job openings.
• Out at Work (Or Not) "We are an organization of primarily gay, lesbian, and bisexual employees of many companies, providing resources, contacts, and empowerment for our peers who are out, coming out, or still in the closet at work."
• GayWork.com "There's a Job for Everyone" Search for jobs with gay-friendly organizations.
• ProGayJobs has a registry of companies, which have domestic partnership benefits, sponsor a gay and lesbian employee resource group, conduct diversity-training programs, donate to GLBT charities, and advertise to the gay and lesbian community.
