Jobs in the Interim

Since the majority of Williams' applicants to medical school take one or two years between graduation and matriculation, it is common to seek short-term work opportunities. For some, this entails a service program such as Teach for America or AmeriCorps. Others seek out research positions in large hospital or university settings. As with choices around summer activities, the key is that you pursue opportunities that you will find personally rewarding, as well as challenging. Research is an asset only if you enjoy conducting it.

One search strategy is to troll the career or human resource section of large hospitals' website. In Boston, for example, opportunities throughout the Harvard hospital system are posted on the Partners Healthcare site.
