How to Find (not just) Summer Housing

We've compiled a list of links that are intended to help you find housing. These are not recommendations. We are currently working on this site so check back often. If you know of any good links, or if you've had or heard of bad experiences with any of the linked organizations, please let us know at occ@williams.edu.

Williams

• To qualify for housing during the summer you must be employed through an internship or have a job paid by the College for a minimum of 20 hours per week for a minimum of five weeks. The cost of $35 per week is deducted from your paycheck, along with the board plan of your choice. Application is due in Facilities by May 1, 2011.

• NYC SUBLET AVAILABLE JUNE 15th TO AUGUST 31st, 2011. Come spend the summer living in a large, sunny studio on the second floor of a brownstone on West 85th Street. Location is great as it's two blocks to the subway (86th + Broadway) and cross-town bus. Enjoy Riverside Park, Central Park, and all the great restaurants, shopping, and conveniences of the Upper West Side! The apt has air conditioning, cable, wireless internet, and a good little kitchen area. Perfect for a couple or individual. Dates are negotiable; rent is $1600 per month. • UIC Campus Housing - Every summer, hundreds of college students flock to Chicago for the opportunity to work with successful Chicago businesses. UIC Campus Housing provides safe, clean, and affordable housing accommodations for these summer interns. Our housing is available for college students interning in Chicago, from late May until August 1. Minimum age for intern housing is 18. Featuring: Furnished rooms in 2- or 4-bedroom apartments; Shared bathroom, kitchen and living room; 24-hour security; On-site laundry; Computer lab; Vending. $300/week; $900/4 weeks

• ApartmentList.com. With over 1.8 million listings nationwide, we are a wonderful free resource for your students to use to help them find housing. We offer the world's first apartment-matching engine. Each city on our website is broken down into neighborhoods, highlighting pricing, noise level, nearby attractions, restaurants, shopping, etc. We've been featured in multiple articles online, including in Wall Street Journal, Tech Crunch, Time.com, and CBS Interactive.
  
  Listy, our mascot, is your friendly neighborhood apartment hunting robot that can customize a list of apartments by using the questions in the top right corner of the website. By using the 'check in' Facebook app, Listy learns what each user likes, doesn't like, where they go, where their friends go, etc. This allows Listy to create a personalized list of apartments that will fit the user's personality.
• MyCheapApartments.com specializes in the development of nationwide, affordable apartment listings. They rate all the affordable apartments with Cheap Scale(R), indicating the affordability of each property relative to similar nearby properties. They are currently ranked #1 on Google and are the largest apartment search engine. They also include off-campus housing.
• MyApartmentMap - "We plot all U.S. universities and colleges on our interactive map, so that students can easily find housing near their Internship. We even show nearby grocery stores, public transportation, and other amenities."
• Sublet.com - To make the rental process quick and easy, Sublet.com posts 1000s of new listings every week and updates its database apartment rentals and rooms daily. Over five years in business, Sublet.com has an industry leading 85% availability.
• Craigslist - Search for housing by city, throughout the United States.
• Hostels.com - Choose from hundreds of United States hostels - the most complete directory of hostels in United States.

New York City

• Fashion Institute of Technology Summer Housing - "FIT offers summer housing in NYC for students, interns, and groups conveniently located within walking distance of Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, and the Empire State Building, as well as shopping and restaurants. Shared Apartment: $2,847 from May 28, 2011 to July 31, 2011; Single Apartment: $4,527 from May 28, 2011 to July 31, 2011. Shared Apartment: $3,156 from May 28, 2011 to August 7, 2011; Single Apartment: $5,020 from May 28, 2011 to August 7, 2011.
  Summer housing is available in furnished apartments that have kitchens and private bathrooms, and feature high ceilings, air conditioning, wireless internet access, and cable TV. Students, interns, and groups who live in FIT’s summer housing will have access to amenities including a fitness center, laundry facilities, and a 24-hour cyber lounge and student work rooms. The residences also have 24-hour security, live-in staff (available for emergencies), and on-call maintenance staff."
• Naked Apartments is brand new and was created by a Harvard graduate.
• Metro International - Help Yourself to Housing - "Everything you need to know about looking for and choosing a place to live is in Help Yourself to Housing: the types of housing available in New York City, where to begin your search, decisions you need to make, your legal rights and responsibilities, and where you can get help. We've also included some suggestions on where you can find a temporary place to stay while you look for a permanent place to live."
• NYU Summer Housing - Anyone can live in NYU residence halls during the summer. They provide safe, comfortable, and convenient housing whether you are taking classes, working, or interning in NYC. You must apply and it typically takes four to six weeks to process your application. You can apply and check on the status of your application online. The deadline is early April.
• Columbia University - offers housing for non-Columbia students working as interns in the New York metropoloitan area for the summer. Intern Housing is available from the end of May until early August. The rate is $3250 for a single room and $2500 for a double room, plus tax. Interns will be granted a full gym membership to the Dodge Physical Fitness Center for the entire 10-week period, included in your housing rate.
• de Hirsch Residence - Student & Intern Housing - Current Per Month Rates are $1,550 for a large single room; $1,450 for a single room, $1,250 per person for a double room, $1,150 per person for a small double room. Residents receive special discount rates to use our comprehensive health and fitness facilities, including a 25-yard swimming pool. ($109/1 month, $179/2 months, $229/3 months).
• Educational Housing Services - "a not-for-profit organization founded in 1987 to provide student-friendly housing to college students and interns 365 days a year. With many convenient locations to choose from, our residences feature 24/7 security, free unlimited local calling, apartment or dorm style, free high-speed Internet, student activities/discounts, lounges, air conditioning, kitchens, color TV with free cable, trained Student Life staff." Seven buildings, rates start at $2900 for end of May to mid-August.
• NYCintern.org - "NYCIntern is an initiative featuring apartments that are located in lower midtown Manhattan, across from Macy’s and Herald Square. These luxury apartments include full-time security and concierge services, laundry facilities, dry cleaning services, and more. The location provides convenient access to all parts of New York City. The apartments also have hardwood floors, private bathrooms, air conditioning.
  Appliances include a refrigerator, stove, and a microwave oven. Other furnishings include couches, dishes, cookware, rugs, desks, dining table, chairs, beds, and dressers. Bedding and bath linens are not provided. Additionally, because most people use mobile phones, we do not offer phone service in the apartments. However, apartments do have basic cable and high-speed Internet access. If wireless Internet access is desired, interns may purchase their own wireless routers."
  Mid-May to early August Rates: 4 Per Apartment - $2,895 per person, 3 Per Apartment - $3,895 per person; early June to early August Rates: 4 Per Apartment - $2,500 per person, 3 Per Apartment - $3,500.
• NY Student Housing - Rent is $899 - $1425.

North Carolina

• North Carolina State University Summer Intern Housing - The goal of the intern-housing program at NC State University is to provide comfortable, affordable accommodations to meet a wide variety of individual needs for college and university students participating in internships in the greater Raleigh area. Intern housing is available from mid-May to early August. The cost of intern housing is $21.00 per day. Charges will be calculated based on the length of your stay as indicated on your reservation form. Interns are responsible for their own linen, cooking/eating utensils and cleaning products.
• Queens University of Charlotte Summer Housing - Three miles from uptown (5 - 10 minute drive); directly across from a city bus stop; centrally located in Myers Park, one of the most historic and attractive communities in Charlotte. Available mid-May to end of July; $100 to $200 per week; nightly rates available. Fully furnished with twin size bed, dresser, desk, and closet; Rent includes utilities, basic cable, local phone service with voicemail, ethernet connection; Microfridge in every room; Free laudry facilities on every floor; Full kitchens on floors 2 - 4 (includes oven, stove, full size refridgerator, large microwaves); Fitness center located on bottom floor of Wireman Dorm ($7/week); Parking is available in the parking deck located directly behind Wireman Dorm. A $30 parking permit is required and is valid for the entire length of stay.
• UNC at Charlotte Intern Housing - The housing rate covers all costs for room rent, utility charges, cable TV connection, internet connectivity, phone installation and local phone service. Late May to early August. Please contact Anne Cavett for information about on-campus housing outside these dates. Cost $20/day. No deadline, but first round of assignments will be made mid-April, and interns are encouraged to apply before this date. After mid-April, assignments are made based on space availability. Intern Housing does fill to capacity.

Pennsylvania

• Drexel University Summer Intern Housing runs from mid-June to September. The Drexel Conference Center provides extended-stay housing in on-campus residential halls. Living at Drexel is ideal for undergraduate or graduate students who are working or studying in Philadelphia during the summer. To be eligible for summer accommodations, individuals must provide proof of employment, internship or enrollment in a local college or university. The Drexel Conference Center is centrally-located and is a vibrant place to call home!
• Robert Morris University Summer Intern Housing Program - Summer intern housing is available in the Concord Hall apartments on the RMU campus from mid-May through July. To be eligible for summer intern housing, individuals must be degree-seeking students at a college or university in the United States or abroad and taking a class or doing an internship / summer employment experience in the Pittsburgh area. Rates are $170/week.
• Villanova University Intern Housing Program - end of May through early August. Modern, three-story (with elevators), air conditioned, furnished apartment building in a Traditional Philadelphia, stone construction motif offers guests the convenience of easy access to major highways and a train station accessing Center City Philadelphia. The apartments are located next to a campus deli-convenience store, tennis, outdoor basketball and beach volleyball courts and a train station. Rent is $170.00 per person, per week (Sunday – Saturday), along with a one-time, non-refundable $45.00 reservation fee.

Texas

Dallas-Houston

• RentXYZ - Free apartment locating is offered by Rent XYZ for the Dallas/Houston area. Since they concentrate on a narrow area, they know their territory very well and have relations with almost every single Dallas apartment. Bonus - they are currently offering a $100.00 rebate.

• Washington Intern Student Housing - WISH houses interns working for the U.S. Congress, the Supreme Court, the White House and all Federal Agencies, as well as the Smithsonian Museums, the Pentagon, newspapers and media networks, law and lobbying firms, embassies, associations, nonprofit organizations, university programs and more. Early May - late August rates $4240 to $6240; mid-May - early August rates $3940 to $5940; late May - mid-August rates $3180 to $4680; early May - late June rates $2320 to $3320; early July - mid-August rates $2320 to $3320.
• Rutgers University - Rutgers-in-Washington has created a great list of D.C. housing options that includes dorms, program housing & hostels, and apartments.
• Summer Intern Housing - at The Catholic University of America. The Catholic University of America (CUA) provides summer housing to individuals who are in Washington, D.C., for educational purposes - internships, co-ops, research and educational study. Catholic University is located in Northeast Washington, D.C., on a tree-lined 193-acre campus, approximately three miles north of the U.S. Capitol. CUA is served by the Metrorail Red Line at the Brookland-CUA stop. Rate for check-ins from mid-May through early August: $27-$30 per night. Two weeks stay required.
• Intern Summer Housing Options at George Washington University. "Our University offers a convenient location for exploring and enjoying Washington D.C. We are located in the heart of the Nation's Capital, and are a quick walk or Metro ride (blue and orange lines) from all major monuments, museums, and historical attractions that make Washington D.C. a unique place for your interns and participants to Work, Stay, and Play!" Housing is available beginning late May and ending early August, with a minimum five week stay required. Weekly rate is $224 - $343.
• D.C. Housing Guide - The Partnership for Public Service has created a list of neighborhoods, apartments, and sublets throughout the city that are popular areas for college students, recent graduates and young professionals.
