AVEDA
CALLS HALT TO "INDIGENOUS" TRADEMARK
Estee Lauder's
Aveda has announced plans to discontinue its Indigenous line of
body care products to demonstrate its support and respect for native
people. Production of the three products in the line (a hair and
body cleanser, massage oil and aroma candle) has halted following
a meeting between Aveda and representatives of American and Australasian
indigenous people.
The company
will also abandon its Indigenous trademark, although it will continue
in its existing indigenous partnerships. These were set up to use
the traditional knowledge of such people and raise consumers' awareness
about it.
