Is the Program in Teaching a major or concentration?
The Program does not offer a major or concentration, but rather, educational guidance in the form of courses, supervised student teaching, lectures, workshops, and advising.
What is the philosophy behind the Program in Teaching?
To become a great teacher, one must experience what it is to be a disciplined and inspired student.
Thus the Program's emphasis is on liberal arts study, which provides knowledge for teaching and an understanding of the experiences aspiring teachers must engender in future students.
To cultivate the habit of reflective practice, the Program offers forums where students can reflect on being learners and teachers and find ways to change and improve.
