CURRENT AND FUTURE RESEARCH (Selected Topics)

1) (With Sonalde Desai, Univ. of Maryland)

a) Old Age Support in India.

b) An assessment of population and development policy, household decision making, and cultural, social and economic inter-relationships in India.

Both will use a qualitative and quantitative comparison of data from two Indian States.

2) An economic, and anthropological study of household decision-making, health, fertility, and the status of women in the potter (Kumbhar) community of rural South India.

Beyond working papers listed above, future plans for research include:

i) The Economic Value of Gifts Exchanges.

ii) Social Goods and The Persistence of Norms: Why are marriage celebration costs so high?

iii) Can Economics Mediate the Relationship between Anthropology and Demography.

iv) Can Conversation Take the Con Out of Econometrics? The Value of Incorporating Qualitative Methods Into Econometrics.
