Job Title: Research Analyst

Available job opening for a full-time research assistant beginning in the Spring or Summer of 2008. This is a one-year position and is ideal for someone who has just finished their undergraduate degree in economics and is interested in applying to a top Economics Ph.D. program after gaining empirical research experience. Responsibilities will include organizing data, analyzing data, statistical programming, as well as reading and summarizing relevant articles in economics. The research analyst will assist me with several projects in applied public finance and industrial organization. The data sets that will be used in the projects include public school administrative data, administrative data on individual pensions and retirement accounts, and detailed scanner data from a large grocery retailer. Research analysts will gain valuable experience using a wide range of programs including Stata, SAS, Matlab, and MapInfo. Applicants should have demonstrated data skills, and experience using STATA or SAS, excellent grades, and be highly motivated to learn and participate in economic research.

Job title: Full-time Data Analyst

Employer: Zell/Lurie Real Estate Center

Location: Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania

This is an ideal position for a graduating senior who wants the opportunity to work closely with faculty at one of the world’s premier business schools. The Wharton School has been consistently ranked as the best business school by Business Week since 1994 and the Real Estate Department has been ranked the top such program since Business Week started producing their rankings. The Zell/Lurie Real Estate Center is looking for bright candidates that would like to spend 2-3 years in this position prior to applying to graduate or professional school in business, economics, real estate or the law. The position will involve supporting faculty in all aspects of their research, including collecting and maintaining databases and analyzing these data using a variety of statistical tools. Candidates may also write research reports and interact with a high-powered group of financial and real estate executives who support the Zell/Lurie Real Estate Center. Some course work in economics is essential, but we will consider a wide variety of majors. Computer programming skills and previous Data Analyst experience would be helpful.
