Anandi Mani
received her Ph.D. in Economics from Boston University in
1998. Her research interests lie in the area of Development
Economics, with a focus on issues of income inequality, occupation
choice and more recently, the political economy of public
good provision. Prior to joining Williams, she has worked
as an assistant professor at Vanderbilt University.
She has also been a Visiting Research Associate at the Economic
Growth Center at Yale University. Her work has
been published in the Journal of Economic Growth (Income
Distribution and the Demand Constraint) and is forthcoming
in the Review of Development Economics (Income
Distribution, Learning by Doing and Comparative Advantage),
the Journal of Labor Economics (Choosing
the Right Pond: Social Approval and Occupation Choice).
Prof. Mani’s recent work on public good provision in developing
countries includes ‘Politics, Information
and the Urban Bias’ (with Sumon Majumdar and Sharun Mukand
-- forthcoming in the Journal of Development Economics)
and ‘Democracy,
Visibility and the Politics of Public Good Provision'
(with Sharun Mukand). Among
other projects, she is currently working with Stuti Khemani
on examining public good outcomes in India.
