Due Date of Written Project: Tuesday,
January 25, 2011, 3:50 p.m.

You should form teams
of 4 members
each. Each team will select a business sector at the following list of business sectors.
Only one team per sector.
When you have chosen a particular sector notify me, either in class or
via e-mail. I will then inform you if that sector is still
available. Then, go to the list of business sectors
and click on the chosen and approved sector. Each team will
choose an industry from their chosen sector and indicate their
selection
on the sign-up sheet in class. This should be done no later than
Thursday, January 6, 2011.

| 2. |
On Thursday, January 13, the members of
each team will give a 10 minute presentation recommending investment in
their chosen industry. Investment opportunities within
the industry, including forecasts for the future of the industry,
should be discussed. You should pretend that you are trying to
persuade investors to invest in your chosen industry. Avoid,
however, making incorrect or misleading statements. Time for
questioning by other classmates and/or the instructor will be available
after each presentation.

On Thursday, January 20,
the members of each team will
give a 10 minute presentation recommending the common stock of one
company within their chosen industry. |

The final project consists of
each team writing a paper (maximum length of 10 typewritten pages)
discussing the factors considered when the team invested a hypothetical
$100,000. Assume that your late rich Uncle Leo left you
$40,000,000 contingent upon your passing an investment test. His
will specified that you were to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in
either stocks or bonds. Your investment is assumed to take place
on December 31, 2010. You may invest the $100,000 in any
combination you wish (all in one company; split evenly or unevenly
among up to three companies). In allocating the $100,000 you
should use the per share market values as of the close of trading
December 31, 2010. You may review any information that is
available and/or seek advice from anyone. Your paper should
include an analysis of the economy, the relevant industries and the
specific companies. Your uncle has indicated that you will
receive the $40,000,000 if your investments, excluding
dividends and/or interest yield a return greater than the S&P 500
for the year 2011. Your paper will be judged on the analysis
techniques that you use rather than on the success of your
investments. The first page of your paper should list the
following information for each security acquired:
Name of
security
Number
of shares
Per
share price
Total
investment in security
