Appartamento del Giardino Segreto

Federico II, segundo l'esempio offerto dalla madre Isabella d'Este a Palazzo Ducale, completa la villa del Te con L'appartamento del giardino segreto, destinato al raccoglimento e alla ricreazione dello spirito. Tra la fine del Cinquecento e gli inizi del Seicento al giardino viene aggiunta una grotta, che accentua il carattere classicheggiante dell'insieme, evocando i ninfei presenti nei giardini delle ville romane.


Apartment of the Secret Garden

Following the example of his mother, Isabella d'Este, in the Ducal Palace, Federico II completed the Palazzo Te with a secret garden for the collecting and the recreation of his spirit. Between the end of the sixteenth and the beginning of the seventeenth centuries a grotto was added that accentuates the classicizing air of the ensemble by evoking the nymphaea in the gardens of ancient Roman villas. The Room of Atilius Regulus is decorated with scenes of noble, even self-sacrificing acts of ancient leaders.
