Loggia delle Muse

Serve da vestibolo per gli ospiti che, dal cortile d'Onore, sono introdotti agli ambienti interni di rappresentanza. Nella complessa decorazione sono esaltati i modelli culturali del commitente, Federico II Gonzaga. La volta contiene nove riquadri con le muse, rilevate a stucco, che danno il nome all'ambiente. Nel riquado al centro della campata mediana la musa Ë abbracciata da Apollo. Le muse sono circondate da emblemi classici e moderni, affrescati entro cornice che riportano fedelmente geroglifici egizi.

Loggia of the Muses

This is the vestibule through which guests passed on their way from the Court of Honor to the interior reception rooms. The complex decoration celebrates the cultural models followed by the patron, Federico II Gonzaga. The vault contains nine stucco panels depicting the muses that give the loggia its name. In the middle panel of the central bay Apollo embraces a muse. The muses are surrounded by modern and classical emblems painted inside frames that bear accurately recorded Egyptian hieroglyphs.
