This animation shows the synthesis of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Choline approaches from the left, while Cofactor A approaches from the top right carrying acetate. Both bind to the much larger enzyme choline acetyltransferase. The enzyme facilitates
the transfer of acetate to the choline, producing the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. After completing the reaction, the enzyme releases the neurotransmitter and the Cofactor A carrier molecule.
