Message details:
Language learning is a process that engages learners cognitively and emotionally. Language learning processes are, therefore, influenced by the cognitive and affective characteristics of the learners (e.g. motivation, anxiety levels, and aptitude), and by external variables beyond the learners' control (e.g. type of instruction, access to opportunities to use the language, and the broader sociocultural context of learning). One key process in language learning is noticing; some things about what learners read or listen to in the languages they are learning capture their attention more than others. Research in second language acquisition has looked into some learner-internal and learner-external factors that influence this process but ignored others. This talk will present questions that second language acquisition researchers have addressed in relation to learner noticing, and will outline some directions for future research. See more about Lama Nassif here https://arabic.williams.edu/profile/ln2/
