Construction Progress

Work on both of the new academic buildings is moving forward on schedule. They are almost completely closed in now, and much of the interior sheetrock is up. Over Spring Break, Barr & Barr made significant headway with site work, including new sidewalks and firetruck access roads near the south building.

We'll try to get some shots of the interiors up in the site soon.

Here's a view of the South Academic Building from the Upper Thompson lot. Hopkins Hall is to the left, Sawyer Library to the right. You can see the east-facing gallery of the new building. The tented area shelters the E-facing columns, which are still being worked on by masons.

A view of the NAB from main entrance of Stetson Hall. The white paving in the foreground is the new footpath that provides access to the north building and the (future) green in front of Stetson. The generous width of this path is entirely determined by local building code. Almost all windows and curtain-wall have been installed, and the area will soon be regraded to accommodate final landscaping.

A closeup of the E-facing columns, which have emerged from the scaffolding. They will eventually support a metal pergola.

The W side of the NAB, showing glassed-in gathering rooms that face Bernhard. These will have soft seating and flat-panel screens that can be connected to notebook computers by students working/lounging there. A corner of Lehman Hall is just visible to the lower left.

Workers are applying copper sheathing to the two-storey wing on the W side of the NAB. This wing will hold the new language lab and, on Level 2, a large classroom. There's plenty of light in these spaces, although the photo blocks the view of substantial glass curtain-wall on the S and N side of this wing.

Another view of the glassed- in gathering rooms at the W end of the NAB. The exterior trim hasn't yet been applied to the glass.
