Construction Progress
June 4 and 5, 2008
Nineteen working days left until substantial delivery of the North Academic Building, and the pace
of construction is furious. The following pictures are the last to be posted here before images
of the completed buildings are uploaded in August.
The South Academic Building's gallery looking out toward Hopkins.
You can make out the landscaping changes in the area between the two buildings. |
On the S-facing side of the NAB, the light-control trellises are starting to go up on their steel outriggers.
You can tell by the shadows cast that they work well. |
"Green roofs" have been planted on both buildings. The small plants (a species of Sedum, I'm told)
supposedly require
little maintenance after they've established themselves.
In the background is Bernhard Music Center. |
Another view of a green roof on the North Academic Building.

The NAB gallery. To the right are metal panels that have just gone up. I'm told that the horizontal features
between each panel are lights, but we haven't seen them illuminated yet.
In the background are stairs to the Center for Foreign Languages,
Literatures, and Cultures. |
The NAB gallery from the opposite direction, facing Sawyer. The red maple slatwork is going up on the left wall and is nearly completed. |
A ground-level classroom, looking out toward Stetson. |
A view of the NAB courtyard, from the W stair tower. The curved gray copper wall marks the new Language Lab
and a large classroom stacked immediately above it. Both are adjacent to the NAB's gallery. |
Hallway, NAB third floor. The architects from BCJ have worked hard to keep the hallways with numerous offices from appearing monotonous. |
Touring profs admire the view of Stetson from the lounge on the NAB's third floor. |
Despite the conservative-appearing brick and copper of the buildings' exteriors, the interiors feature sleek walls
covered with different kinds of metal panels. |
Prof. Magnus Bernhardsson in an SAB faculty office with a spectacular view of Stetson.
Below are brick columns that will soon be capped with a steel trellis to form a loggia.
