Drinking and Sex
Most likely you are familiar with drunken hook-ups and the walk of shame. Not all drunken hook-ups are harmless though. Over half of college men who acknowledge sexual assault had reported drinking. Women who reported sexual aggression on a date also report alcohol use in over half the cases. Drinking not only puts you at a higher risk for sexual assault but also increases your chances of contracting an STD and having a forced or unwanted hook-up. Binge drinkers are seven times more likely than nonbinge drinkers to have unprotected sex. Alcohol also lowers your immune system allowing STD's to easily attack your body. In short alcohol exponentionally increases your risk of date rape. Visit our section on Risky Sexual Behavior for more about sex and risks college students take.
