Drinking and Women

This college girl should have read this page before her night of drinking.

Why a separate section for Women?

Alcohol affects women differently than it does men for a variety of reasons.

Body Size - Because on average women are smaller than men the same amount of alcohol will have a much greater affect on women than men. For example a 100lb. woman will fell twice the effect that a 200lb. man feels.

Body composition - Women have more body fat and less body fluid than men. This significantly slows down the bodies' ability to absorb alcohol.

Period - Women are more susceptible to the effects of alcohol right before their menstrual cycle.

Alcohol Dehydregenase - What, you're thinking is that? This is the enzyme in your stomach that helps your body digest alcohol. Women have less alcohol dehydregenase in their stomachs causing alcohol to stay in their bloodstream for longer amounts of time and in higher concentrations.
