"Hardiness" consists of the three CŐs:

Commitment: Become fully involved in the MOMENT, donŐt think ahead of what COULD happen

Control: You are in control, you make an impact, you are efficient

Challenge: Life is unpredictable so this provides an opportunity for growth (Friedman lecture, 3-1-2001), push yourself a little bit

Research by Frederick Rhodewalt & Sjofn Agustdottir has shown that hardy individuals differ from those rated low on the hardiness scale in that, on average, they were more likely to perceive an event as desirable and controllable (Rhodewalt & Agustdottir, 1984). Moreover, a recent study has shown that high hardy people report considerably less physical illness under high stress conditions than low hardy individuals.
