Intravenous Use

• Most perilous method of using cocaine.

• Cocaine is prepared for intravenous use by placing 1/10 to ¼ of a gram on a spoon and then adding water. This solution is then strained and drawn up into a syringe and injected into a vein.

• This takes effect in about 20 seconds.

• "Shooting" cocaine is the most common method among those addicted than among occasional users
• This use carries with it the hazard of unsterile needles. Shooting puts impurities into the blood, and shared needles can spread infectious diseases, including hepatitis and AIDS.
