As an arts leader in Florida, the Polk Museum of art educates and inspires the community through creative and diverse exhibitions and collections, cultural alliances, and compelling events and programs. The sponsor of the Mayfair by the Lake arts festival, the Polk Museum of Art is a leading innovator among Florida's visual arts museums. The Museum is a private, not-for-profit organization governed by a volunteer 36-member Board of Trustees. The volunteer Board of Governors assists with long range planning and resource development. The Museum was accredited by the American Association of Museums (AAM) in 1983 and was reaccredited in 1999.
