Textbook
There will be no required text for this course.
There are several books which you may find
helpful later in the course, all of which will be on
reserve in the library. These are: Israel Herstein's
Abstract Algebra; Michael Artin's Algebra;
and Joseph Gallian's Contemporary Abstract Algebra.
All three of these are excellent books, but will not be
useful at the beginning of the course.
