Featuring over 60 views of Venice, Rome, Siena, and Capri, Prendergast in Italy also includes the artist’s personal sketchbooks, letters, photographs, and guidebooks from the turn of the last century.
Along with artwork from the Williams College Museum of Art and the Terra Foundation for American Art, Prendergast in Italy includes loans from over fifty museums and private collectors in the United States, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
After opening at the Williams College Museum of Art on July 18, 2009, Prendergast in Italy travels to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice (October 9, 2009—January 10, 2010), and to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (February 14—May 9, 2010).
A catalogue, printed in both English and Italian, accompanies the exhibition.
