Are You At Risk?
In a survey by Perkins et. al. given to college students alcohol was reportedly used at least yearly by 97% of the respondents and at least monthly by 84% of the respondents. The second most common drug was tobacco used by only 20% of college students yearly. College students come across alcohol in some respect every day of their lives. Many college students consume alcohol and many partake in binge drinking. Perkins mentions in the article that the most common misperception about drinking is that a person who drinks once a week is normal when in actuality on most campuses drinking occurs much less. It's been proven that drinking, especially binge drinking affects not only the drinker but also others around him/her. This puts all college students at risk for health-related problems associated with alcohol.
