Although many mental disorders have strong genetic components, Borderline Personality Disorder does not appear to be inherited. Studies involving monozygotic and dizygotic twins do not support the role of genetics in the onset of this disorder. Although the impulsivity and aggression stemming from improper serotonergic activity have strong genetic components, BPD has not.
