There were 2.4 million Americans occasionally using cocaine in 1998, 1.8 million of which were constant users. This 1.8 million characterizes .8 % of the population for ages 12 and older. There have not been any significant changes in the number of users since then. Cocaine use was highest in 1985 where there were 5.7 million users.
