Surviving the Semester
Module Recap

Making Research Less Painful:

  • Look for clues in the library database records to help you determine what type of source you have found and whether it will be useful for your research.
  • Keep things organized by using physical or virtual folders to store citations and sources.
  • Keep track of what you've done, what worked, and what didn't.
  • Take good notes, making sure to indicate your words versus the author's words.
  • Print out or save web pages that you plan to use as sources for your assignment

Planning, Timing, and Keeping Things on Track:

  • Make sure you understand the assignment.
  • Estimate how long your assignment will take and double it.
  • Break your assignment down into small pieces & set deadlines for them.
  • Get help with research if you need it.
  • Leave yourself enough time to do the assignment.
  • Bounce ideas around with people.
  • Take advantage of the resources available to you.
