In 2008 the Templeton Foundation posed the question,
"Does science make belief in God obsolete?"
to 13 prominent thinkers, including Nobel Laureate William D. Phillips.
His answer was, "Absolutely Not!"

Since then, Phillips has publicly continued the discussion of this question in print with Steven Pinker, Professor of Psychology at Harvard, and in person with Michael Shermer, Publisher of Skeptic magazine.

On Thursday, October 8, 2009, Williams College Chaplain Rick Spalding moderated a conversation about this question at a private dinner for Williams College students and also at a later public forum starting at 8 pm on October 8th at St. John's Church, 35 Park Street, Williamstown. MA. Everyone was welcome to the forum!

About 60 Williams College students attended the dinner and conversation, and about 40 persons of all ages attended the forum at St. John's Church.
