The Green Chicken Contest -- 2013
On Saturday, November 9th twelve students from Williams trekked to Middlebury to defend the Green Chicken, a formerly unwanted wedding gift but now a beloved trophy housed each year by the winner of the Middlebury - Williams Green Chicken Math Contest. In a hard fought contest, decided only when the last Williams exam was graded, the all frosh/soph Williams group edged out Middlebury 165 to 142. The top four scores from each school are counted; this year's team was Philip Brockman, David Burt, Sam Donow and Ben Kaufman, coached by professors Michael Biro, Ed Hansen, Steven Miller and Mihai Stoiciu. A copy of the exam is available here (solutions here). For those interested in defending Greenie in '15, or more information about math contests and problem solving at Williams, contact Miller at sjm1 AT williams.edu or Stoiciu at Mihai.Stoiciu AT williams.edu.
